The African Renaissance Monument is a highly visited site, which made the exhibition very engaging for the public. The artist was present at the African Renaissance Monument, along with a collaborator, so they could take turns throughout the entire month of the exhibition. She welcomed 4,871 visitors to her exhibition and, on three occasions, received students from the same school in the field of communication, as the message of sharing she conveyed to the students proved to be very fruitful.

My exhibition at the Villa de la Région — 49 rue de Paris, Saint-Denis, Réunion Island, began on June 3, 2016, at 6:00 p.m., with the official opening of the exhibition presided over by Mrs. Aline Murin Haorau, elected official in charge of Culture. My exhibition will run for one month, from June 3 to July 3, 2016, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I exhibited around thirty works as a solo artist. This exhibition allowed me to show a wide audience the work I had been creating for three years on Réunion Island. It was important to me that the people of Réunion, tourists, and schools discover my work as an artist and art ceramicist. Indeed, culture must be accessible to everyone, and we, as creators, must also be accessible.

It also aims to bring excitement to Dakar, a fertile ground for creation, a place of artistic vibrancy, a showcase for African creativity, and a hub for major cultural events and commercial exchanges.

Mr. Representative of the State, Ladies and Gentlemen, Aline Murin Hoarau, delegate for the promotion of culture and Réunionese identity, It is with pleasure that I welcome you here this evening, on behalf of the President of the Regional Council, Mr. Didier ROBERT, for the opening reception of a new exhibition in this Villa de la Région. The Réunion Region is strongly committed to culture. This support is demonstrated through the implementation of numerous assistance programs aimed at supporting creation, the dissemination of local artists’ work, the development of the visual arts in Réunion, and greater awareness among the Réunionese public of contemporary art. The villa where we are gathered is therefore mainly dedicated to hosting exhibitions by visual artists. We want the visual arts sector to be strengthened, recognized, and professionalized. To this end, we are continuing our commitments alongside you again this year. The exhibition presented to you this evening highlights the talent of ceramic artist Kadiatou Sinay Kante. Freshly returned from Dakar, where she has just represented Réunion at the Biennale of African Art, Kadiatou Sinay Kante shares with us in this exhibition the very essence of her work: original works inspired by her travels around the world, by the seasons, by her encounters, and by her roots. Personally, and on behalf of the Community, I would like to congratulate Kadiatou Sinay Kante on organizing this exhibition here with us, at the Villa de la Région, and wish her every success as she continues her artistic journey. It will be up to you to appreciate the quality and originality of her work, which I believe will not leave you indifferent. My speech: The MiNdaho exhibition, which means “canari,” speaks about the earthenware water jars I used to find in my grandparents’ courtyard in Bakel. Filled with water, they were used either for drinking or cooking; sometimes one was reserved for my grandfather’s or grandmother’s personal use, and only they drank from it or allowed certain people to do so. I must say that I was one of those privileged people. The exhibition could also have been called Renaissance — rebirth — and we could also speak of reawakening one’s senses. Exhibiting at 1. The National Art Gallery of Dakar 2. The African Remembrance Square 3. Today, the African Renaissance Monument The places where I exhibit hold meaning for me: a deep meaning that reaches into my soul, my heart, and my senses as the committed woman and artist that I am. The African Renaissance Monument speaks of renaissance as an asset for Africans here and elsewhere; a true springboard for African integration and cultural influence; a symbol of rootedness and openness. I therefore invite you to reawaken your senses through these exhibited ceramics, which will tell you who they are. These ceramics are made with clay from some of your regions: Pout, Tchiky, and Sébikhotane. I also hope to work with other types of clay, and I am calling on those who travel to their regions to grant me the privilege of bringing me clay from there, until I am able to go myself. So I believe it is important for me to briefly recall my work as a ceramicist. Clay, preparing the clay, designing the works, drying, traveling to Sébi for firing, traveling again to Sébi to collect my fired works, decorating them, taking measurements, and photographing them. Presenting my works on my website and social media, but also presenting my projects to the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage; This profession revealed itself to me about ten years ago now. What an honor; what a joy to make the earth, the clay, sing beneath my hands. What joy to have had this opportunity; Taming clay requires patience, respect, and listening; it means being honest, without pretending… knowing how to listen when the connection between the clay and me takes place. What an honor, what a joy it is to pass on these heritages that were handed down to me and that I gradually made my own as maturity took shape within me. To pass them on to whom? To children, to your children, but not only to them — to you as well, to those who have forgotten their earthly heritage; I am speaking, of course, of the earth, of clay, of the objects that shaped your daily life, and my own daily life when I visited my grandparents. This earth is not mine alone; it is yours, and it is also your children’s. So allow me to pass on, to share with you, my vision of working with the earth through this new exhibition, MiNdaho; I hope that soon, in a studio, you will be able to see more of my ceramics on display from January 1 to December 31 each year, and throughout the world. Through workshops and courses dedicated to transmitting the skills of designing and decorating objects, art belongs to everyone. Allow me to be this ceramicist who speaks of her origins, who speaks of her roots. Allow me simply to be who I am, by granting me the support I need for this evolution. Thank you.
